Corel Knockout 2
It's a busy day for the folks at Corel. In addition to offering CorelDRAW and Photo-Paint as standalone applications today, the company has announced the availability of KnockOut 2 for Mac OS X.
'KnockOut 2 is a technology that needs to be seen to be believed -- the simplicity of the application and remarkable power it provides leaves even the most experienced Photoshop users impressed,' said Ian LeGrow, executive vice president of procreate development. 'Ideas that were previously left at the 'drawing board' because they were just too difficult to consider can now be a reality with KnockOut.'
With KnockOut 2, users can create masks of complex objects using simplified methods compared to the tools built into most imaging programs. It makes it much easier for designers and visual artists to 'knock out' fine detail like liquid, glass, ice, hair, smoke or fire than they could with ordinary imaging tools.
In a recent meeting with MacCentral, field marketing manager Jill Perry explained that KnockOut 2 has been changed to help meet the needs of users of previous versions of the product. First and foremost, the software's core architecture has been changed to a plug-in, which can be installed in Adobe Photoshop 5 or higher, or other compatible applications including procreate Painter 7 or Corel Photo-Paint.
Designed to work with Mac OS 8.6 or higher, KnockOut 2 runs natively under Mac OS X, as well, and will also function in Mac OS X's 'Classic' environment in tandem with software like Photoshop.
KnockOut 2 is available immediately for Mac OS 8.6 and higher including Mac OS X v10.1, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows Me and Windows XP. The retail price is US$329. Current Ultimatte KnockOut 1.0, Corel KnockOut 1.1 and 1.5 users can upgrade to KnockOut 2 for US$149. KnockOut 2 will be available in German in late December 2001 and French in January 2002. Italian, Spanish and Brazilian-Portuguese versions will follow in early 2002.
